Liveaboard Diving Similan Surin Richelieu Rock Burma, Phuket Phi Phi Hin Daeng
The
Similan, Surin & Richelieu Rock
The Similan,
Surin Island & Richelieu Rock represent some of the
best diving in the Andaman Sea. These world class dive sites
are conveniently accessible from Phuket based liveaboards
and should on the top of the list for divers visiting South
East Asia.
The Surin Island National Marine Park is located 85km
north of the Similan
Islands and 80km west of Ranong the most Northern
port on the West Coast of Thailand. The Surin Islands, although
visited by several dive operators from Phuket, are more appropriately
famous for their beautiful coves, bays and dense jungle than
they are for their diving. The two islands between the Similan
Islands and the Surin Island National Marine Park, called
Koh Bon &
Koh Tachai are absolutely fantastic dive sites
offering just about everything divers can wish for. These
two spots are hard to top but Richelieu Rock to the
Northeast is world class and is one of the best dive sites
in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Richelieu Rock is located about 200km North of Phuket
and is known world wide as one of the most spectacular sites
in Thailand. Close to the Southern border of Burma
this isolated pinnacle rises up from the sandy bottom at a
depth of about 35m to just below the surfaces at low tide.
Covered in soft corals, anemones and sea fans it offers an
amazing variety of marine life with Morays, Shrimps, Crown
fish, Frogfish, Pipefish, Sea horses and Scorpion fish upon
the reef. Stingrays, Guitar rays, Leopard and Black tip sharks
and large schools of Trevallies, Tuna and Barracudas cruise
the wall. Between February and May is the best season to see
Whale sharks & Manta rays when the water temperature is higher
bringing more plankton to the area attracting these gentle
giants.
The Similan, Surin & Richelieu Rock trip can be combined with
trip to Hin
Daeng/Hin Muang and/or Burma
Banks trip.
